Pace Online Graduation: Recording with Zoom

Hello Pace Online Commencement Speakers!

We are asking speakers to record their speeches for broadcast during the Pace Online graduation event on May 16th. Here are the details you need:

Please record your speech in Zoom with our background (link below). Please review these Zoom settings before you hit record:

  • Video > select “HD”
  • Background & Filters > add and select the background file (download here)
  • Recording > use “Local Recording” so you can easily upload the file to our Dropbox or Google Drive (paceolc@gmail.com).

Here are a few more items to consider before you record:

  • Lighting: If you have a ring light or desk lamp, use it in addition to other room lighting. Face toward a window, if you can, but definitely don’t turn your back to one!
  • Sound: Try your best to eliminate background noise.
  • Framing: To eliminate distortion, your camera should be at the same height as your nose. If you have a laptop, try resting it on a box.
  • Edits: No editing necessary! We will broadcast your speech as if you are delivering it live. However, Pace staff will trim the beginning and end of your file. Don’t worry about an awkward start or finish!
  • Questions? Or would you like remote assistance? Reach out to Pace staff at OLC@pace.edu. We’re happy to help!
This is an example of what your video will look like.

Delivery

When you have finished your recording, please share your file with the Pace Online team with either Google Drive (paceolc@gmail.com) or Dropbox (paceolc@gmail.com). Thank you!

Please reach out to Online Learning Center staff at OLC@pace.edu if you have any questions. Good luck!

Media Production in the OLC Studios

Over 70 faculty members from across all Pace colleges, schools, and divisions have produced video for their courses and projects in collaboration with OLC staff this year. We held 364 hours of collaborative work sessions and consultations (an increase of 50% from the previous year) and collaboratively produced 417 videos (a decrease of about 5% from the previous year – the Year of the Paralegal Certificate). With each video averaging about 6 minutes in length, this totals over 43 hours of instructional video. It was an innovative year  as well – we opened our studio in Pleasantville in March, and have collaborated with faculty on new software platforms as well.

We’re looking forward to new and diverse projects in 2024! See OLC Monthly Updates for project highlights (and video examples). As always, please contact OLC staff with your questions, ideas, or production needs.

  • – The OLC will begin working with Haub faculty in January to create asynchronous course content.
  • – The Paralegal Certificate Program has launched!

Production Tip of the month: Create background images for your lecture slides. Change the opacity to 50% so it’s not the focus, but still creates interest and provides visual context. This can also be a great way to show your sense of humor.

December Update

Media Production in November

  • • 36 hours of consultations with faculty and staff in Dyson, College of Health Professions, Haub Law, ELI, and the School of Education.
  • 13 videos produced; 4 additional edited cuts (333 minutes total).

Highlights and Upcoming

  • – We wrapped 5 days of shooting  Sands College seniors performing monologues and dialogues for industry auditions (“Senior Showcases“). This year, Professor Wendy Kurtzman flew in from LA to direct the sessions, and Pace alumni at Blue Oak Productions led principal photography.

What’s happening in December? This is a busy time of the year! Here are some current and upcoming productions:

  • – Production will continue on the Writing for Diversity in Theater and Media Podcast, led by Professor Brian Jones and Colby Hopkins.

Production Tip of the month: Adobe Express (an online application and part of Adobe Creative Cloud) is an online presentation/video-making software similar to Canva. Stock (free-to-use) graphics and easy-to-use animation tools help turn presentations into eye-catching videos.
